Fall is in the Air!

I look forward to our weekends here, because it usually means a little adventure as a family.  We don't necessarily go very far - sometime it's just a 20-40 min drive - but we try to do a little something to get a feel for what this area has to offer, and enjoy this new life adventure of ours.  So far, we have gone to:

 Annecy, France (8/26) for their outdoor markets and lovely views of mountains and lakes

Versoix, Switzerland (8/26) attending the annual Fête des pêcheurs (aka fish fry with local lake perch)

Zermatt, Switzerland (9/6 - 7) enjoying the train ride there, the quiet beautiful town with flowers in every window, and the amazing views of the Matterhorn

Lausanne, Switzerland (9/15) to enjoy a walk through the botanical gardens and town, set up on the hillside.  We also had lunch at a dim sum restaurant for a little Chinese food fix.

Hayden's first experience trying orange juice!  It was freshly squeezed and SO good!

Divonne Les Bains, France (9/16) to walk the outdoor markets with beautiful bowls of spices, cheeses, pastas, breads and fruit.  We also discovered a great park that we will definitely be visiting again.

St. Cergue, Switzerland (9/29) to watch the annual tradition "Desalpe de St. Cergue" of bringing the cows down from the mountain for the winter, marking the end of grazing season.

And this weekend, we went to Collex-Bossy, Switzerland (10/6) because 'tis the season for apples!

What fun it was to walk the rows of trees and pick our own!  Hayden loved watching the horses and looking for ripe apples like Golden Delicious, Elstar and Idared.  It was a beautiful day for our Saturday morning trip and we had the great company of our friends, the Hwangs.

We picked up 3 kilos of apples for a mere 6 CHFs!  Check out our bounty!

 It's hard to believe we have been here for nearly two months!  After 6 weeks of waiting, our sea shipment finally arrived and we are just about out of boxes and finally starting to feel settled.  It is SO nice to have our own furniture, rather than the sparse, not very comfortable rental furniture that we had while we waited!  Thank goodness for a terrace facing the road, where the truck and lift could bring in all our furniture.  I can't imagine how they would have done it via our winding stairway or the elevator that barely fits the four of us and our small stroller!

This time of year, Hayden's school does its "welcome back" barbecue.  Post food, he and his best buddy from his class, Joshua, decided to climb the nearby tree.  These boys play together all the time and are inseparable!  (BTW, Marty was fresh off of his week long trip to China.  I don't know how he does it, but he never seems jetlagged!)

We have had some cold mornings, so I have had to put Beckham in a little more than a onesie, as we head out the door each morning @ 8am to drop Hayden off at school.
