Last Friday was our biggest snowfall. Big fluffy flakes for most of the morning and afternoon. It also was dress up day at Hayden's school to celebrate Geneva's Escalade, a historical event when the people of Geneva protected their city from being taken by the Duke of Savoy.
Costumes are part of this celebration and at school, this translated into a room of clowns, princesses and superheroes. It felt a bit strange, walking out of school on Friday, with Hayden in costume and a ton of snow on the ground.
We had a few friends over this past Saturday, and we received an enormous "marmite" - chocolate cauldron with marzipan vegetables. It's one of the symbolic parts of Escalade, when families break open the cauldron together in remembrance of winning. If we muster the courage to reveal this chocolate treasure to Hayden, I will take photos! But then, we will need to figure out what to do with all that chocolate. :)
Beckham has a couple of new party tricks. He rolled over for the first time from tummy to back on November 13th (~4 mo). I would put him down for tummy time and he would flip over. Then on December 1st (~4.5 mo), he started rolling from back to tummy. Now, he's such a pro, that I will flip him over, blink, and he will be back on his belly. It has made diaper changes and bedtime a little bit more interesting! This morning, during a diaper change, he kept hoisting his left leg around, trying to flip over on the changing pad (which curves up on the sides). At bedtime, he much prefers to sleep on his belly, but if he is still awake but tired, he often gets stuck and cries out for us to rescue him. So there is a lot of running in and out of the room to help him, until he falls asleep - which he is doing on his own now. It didn't take long for Beckham to get bored with his swing, so we graduated to the activity center. He is still a bit small for it, so we have to steady him with various blankets and pillows, but he loves it and it is so much more stimulating vs. the swing.

Recently, he also discovered his hands and he loved to knit them together. It is so cute to watch all the concentration in his little face and is rather impressive when he manages to fold them perfectly together.
Today, he found his feet so I imagine it won't be long until that foot finds its way into his mouth. Today was 12/12/12. The last "same date" of the century! Time certainly does seem to fly but I am hoping this month doesn't go too quickly as I love this time of year and am hoping to savor this holiday, while I am still home on maternity leave, and as we celebrate our first Christmas in Geneva!
